Staff were present when Surrey restaurant was shot at: police

Another establishment in Surrey was targeted with gunfire in the early hours of Sunday morning, and police believe the shooting was related to extortion.

The Surrey Police Service says officers were called to a business on 120 Street near 80 Avenue for reports of shots fired around 2:30 a.m.

The exterior of the restaurant was damaged by gunshots and while there were staff members inside at the time, nobody was hurt, according to police.

“SPS will liaise with police partners to determine if there are any links to other files. At this early stage, it is believed to be extortion related,” the department wrote in a statement.

The latest in a series of attacks comes the day the World Sikh Organization of Canada is hosting a town hall at Civic Hotel in Surrey to address what it calls “Indian transnational repression and co-ordinated extortion” targeting the community.
