Part of Highway 1 in Burnaby remains closed Monday morning as Mounties continue to investigate a weekend shooting that injured one man.
As of 6 a.m., the westbound right lane at Willingdon Avenue was shut down, according to DriveBC.
The Burnaby RCMP said to expect traffic impacts into the morning commute, and potentially into the day.
“We are asking that commuters plan an alternate route if possible or plan accordingly for the delays,” the detachment wrote in a statement. “Please slow down in the area as there will be people working near the highway.”
The shooting occurred in a wooded area off the highway Saturday night. Police said the 71-year-old victim appeared to be living in the forest.
“While the victim’s injuries appear serious, he is in stable condition,” Mounties wrote.
Police asked anyone who witnessed the incident or has information to call 604-646-9999 and reference file number 25-8747.
