B.C.’s Independent Investigations Office is appealing for witnesses to an incident that left one man injured in Vancouver last month.
On March 29, around 8:30 p.m., officers with the Vancouver Police Department approached a parkade on Denman Street and tried to speak with two people in a white Dodge Charger who had “reportedly been sitting in the vehicle for some hours,” the IIO said in a news release Tuesday.
The driver of the Charger left the parkade and there was “a minor collision with a police vehicle as it exited,” the IIO said.
While driving near the intersection of Pendrell and Denman streets, the Charger crashed into two more vehicles – a Toyota Corolla and a Tesla Model 3.
“Two men from the Charger were arrested, and the driver sustained injuries during the incident,” according to the IIO.
The IIO was notified on April 4. The agency investigates all police-involved incidents that result in serious harm or death, whether or not there are allegations of wrongdoing.
The VPD issued its own statement on March 30, the day after the incident, saying officers arrested two armed suspects who fled police in a stolen car.
One was Tasered before being taken into custody and both “received medical attention,” according to the VPD.
