No injuries after police-involved shooting in Surrey, department says

Published:

A major road was shut down most of the evening after a shooting involving police.

The Surrey Police Service says no one was hurt when an RCMP officer discharged their firearm during an incident Tuesday afternoon.

According to the department, members of the RCMP Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit were in the area of 120 Street and 64 Avenue around 4:40 p.m. conducting an “unrelated investigation” when they “had an altercation with an unknown man after he allegedly attempted to steal from the officers.”

An officer discharged a firearm during the altercation, but the SPS says no members of the public or police were injured.

The man was arrested and held in custody, police said, adding the incident is under investigation.
