Police are urging drivers to be cautious on the roads after a burst of snowfall brought wintery conditions to major B.C. highways, resulting in several collisions Tuesday morning.
According to the BC Highway Patrol, the morning commute has already seen multiple crashes in both directions on Highway 1, near the Port Mann Bridge.
Drivers can expect “extreme traffic delays” in the area, and commuters are advised to reconsider driving until the roads have been cleared, said police.
According to DriveBC, the crash occurred shortly after 6 a.m., with emergency crews at the scene east of the King Edward Overpass in Coquitlam.
As of 7:30 a.m., the incident had been cleared, but drivers were still advised to pass with caution and expect delays.

In North Vancouver, multiple spun-out vehicles westbound between Mountain Highway and Lynn Valley Road are causing delays, said Drive BC.
Police are reminding drivers to ensure their vehicles are equipped with adequate snow tires, and that cars are completely free of snow before taking to the roads. Prepared drivers should still expect to slow for the conditions, while drivers without adequately equipped cars are advised to forgo journeys entirely, said police.
“If you’re a confident driver who is prepared for the snow, you need to slow down more than usual,” says Cpl. Michael McLaughlin.
“If you’re not a confident driver, or your car isn’t winter ready, stay off the roads entirely. This isn’t your day.”
