Ten people were rushed to hospital after a multi-vehicle crash on the Sea to Sky Highway near Whistler Wednesday morning.
The crash was reported around 9 a.m. just north of Brandywine Falls, near the “Welcome to Whistler” sign.
Paramedics told CTV News two people were transported to air ambulances and flown to hospital in critical condition. Eight others were driven to hospital in stable condition.
The highway was shut down in both directions, with DriveBC warning that a “lengthy closure” was expected.
Shortly before 3 p.m., the Sea to Sky Whistler RCMP issued an updated statement saying the road had reopened “with alternating traffic.”
“Travelers should expect some delays as a result of the road closure,” said Cpl. Katrina Boehmer, in the statement.
“Drivers should also continue to exercise caution when travelling the Sea to Sky corridor today due to mixed snow and rain weather conditions.”
The Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service has been called in from Metro Vancouver to investigate the crash.
The Sea to Sky Whistler RCMP is advising the public to avoid travelling to and from Whistler, due to the closure of Highway 99 in both directions, between the Callaghan Valley Road and Brew Creek Road.
