Minor damage after North Vancouver overpass strike

Published:

There’s been another overpass strike, this time in North Vancouver.

An overpass near the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge received minor damage Friday morning after a commercial truck struck it, Mounties confirmed.

BC Highway Patrol says a report came in at 9:27 a.m. that a truck was stopped on the shoulder of Highway 1 by the bridge, south of the Main Street onramp.

“Officers attended the scene learned that a grader being transported on a flat deck tractor trailer had struck the Main Street overpass,” reads a news release from the RCMP.

“Upon inspection minor superficial damage to the overpass was observed as well as damage to the cab of the grader.”

Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement members were called in to investigate will determine what actions against the carrier are necessary, police said.

The strike marks the fifth time a commercial vehicle has hit an overpass so far this year, according to provincial data.

Last week, Majha Trucking Ltd. had its entire fleet suspended after one of its vehicles struck an overpass in Langley.
