Homicide investigators have identified the man who was killed in a shooting in a Surrey mall parking lot as 29-year-old Jaskaran Singh Minhas.

One man was killed in a shooting Monday afternoon in the parking lot of a shopping centre in Surrey’s Newton area, which police now say was an act of gang violence.

Officers were called to Scott Road Crossing near 120 Street and 80 Avenue around 5:25 p.m., according to a statement from the Surrey Police Service.

There they found a driver suffering from life-threatening injuries inside a vehicle. “Despite life-saving measures, one man succumbed to his injuries at scene,” the statement reads.

The incident marks the city’s first homicide of 2025.

About 10 minutes later, Delta police responded to a vehicle on fire in the area of 64 Avenue and Westview Drive.
