A popular annual Christmas light display at a Burnaby, B.C., home is back up and running for the rest of the holiday season.
The DuPlessis family’s property once again features thousands of lights and decorations, as well as several synchronized 12-minute musical sequences.
“It’s just fun to build and see the happiness in people when they come by,” Joel DuPlessis told CTV News.
DuPlessis started building Christmas when he was a teenager, and continued that tradition when he moved his family to their current home in 2000.
This year, he's changed to pixel lighting, meaning DuPlessis can change the colours with the flick of a switch.
“I just look for what I can do to add each year, how can I make it brighter and cheerier and bring more people to enjoy,” he said.
Onlookers are welcome to come take it all in free of charge, however the family does accept donations, all of which go to the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation.
The foundation told CTV News the DuPlessis family has collected more than $110,000 over the years – money used to support autism spectrum disorders and diabetes research.
“This annual fundraiser beautifully embodies the holiday spirit—a time for generosity, community care, and hope. Joel’s commitment reminds us of the profound impact we can make when we come together with a shared goal,” said Rita Thodos, executive vice-president of philanthropy.
DuPlessis said they were inspired by the impact that BC Children’s Hospital had on his family
“They’ve helped my daughters and nephew as well, and every year I hear people saying how well the children’s hospital has helped them,” he said.
“I’ve always felt Christmas is about children, and what a better way to give back to them,”
You can visit the home, located at 8222 Burnlake Dr., every night until Jan. 6.
