Police say the public should expect a large police presence at a fair in Mission Friday evening following allegations a shootout is planned for the event.
According to a statement issued by Mission RCMP Friday, police were called to investigate a Facebook post threatening the shootout after receiving reports from “numerous” concerned members of the public.
The credibility of the threat, planned for a fair currently taking place at a Mission mall, has not been confirmed and there has been no recent uptick in gang activity or gun violence in the area, say police.
“Investigators have spoken with the person who made the post, and are continuing to follow-up with other persons related to the matter,” Mission RCMP said in the statement.
Police will be increasing patrols around the fair as a precaution, while the fair’s organizers already have security staff planned for the event, it added.
Anyone who sees anything suspicious around the fair is advised to immediately notify security personnel, or call 911.
Anyone with further information about the threat is asked to call Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161, and quote file number 25-3101.
