Firefighters rescue eagle from tree in Squamish, B.C.

A bald eagle is recovering at a wildlife rehabilitation centre after being rescued from a tree by firefighters in Squamish.

Squamish firefighters came to the aid of a bald eagle stuck in a tall tree in the Brackendale community over the weekend.

The bird was discovered around 10 a.m. Sunday with its wing wedged between the branches, struggling to get free.

Squamish Fire Rescue members reached the eagle with a fire truck ladder and dislodged it from the branch.

A crowd of onlookers cheered when the bird of prey was put in a net and brought to ground, a moment captured on video and shared with CTV News by wildlife rescue volunteer Tim Cyr.

The eagle—now named Maple after the street it was found on—is in the care of the OWL (Orphaned Wildlife) Rehabilitation Society for what is expected to be a months-long recovery.
