A large stretch of the Lower Mainland is under a special weather statement, with wind warnings in place for Metro Vancouver, the southern Gulf Islands and parts of Vancouver Island.
All areas in Metro Vancouver, including Richmond and Delta, can expect to face the windstorm, while the weather will be localized on the island to the Greater Victoria region.
According to the weather agency, a low-pressure centre tracking across southern Vancouver Island Monday night could bring southeasterly gusts of up to 90 km/h to the alerted regions.
The winds will develop early Monday evening, before easing Tuesday morning as the low pressure moves inland and weakens.
Objects not sufficiently tied down may be tossed by the gusts, and damage to buildings’ roofs and windows may occur, Environment Canada warns.
Residents are also advised to brace themselves for potential power outages and fallen tree branches.
