Police have announced charges against a Delta, B.C., man after officers allegedly found dozens of guns inside his home, including some that were said to be lying underneath a dresser.

The incident unfolded in the early morning hours of Nov. 8, when officers from the Delta Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting a home invasion in the Ladner area.

Authorities said the report indicated three suspects were involved, but officers arrived to find only one man standing outside the property with a handgun.

They later learned he was living at the home.

“Through further investigation, officers determined there was no evidence of a home invasion,” Delta police said, in a news release.

But inside the Ladner property, the officers allegedly discovered more than 30 firearms, plus thousands of rounds of ammunition, in “various stages of storage and display,” the department said.

“Some firearms were found unsecured on the floor, hanging on walls, placed on furniture, while others were properly secured in a safe,” police added.

An image provided by the department shows multiple handguns on a carpeted floor under a dresser. Another shows seven long guns mounted on a wall.

All of the weapons were seized, police said.

Maximilien Pailleret has since been charged with one count of possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, one count of storing a firearm contrary to regulations, and two counts of careless use or storage of a firearm.

Pailleret is scheduled to appear in Surrey provincial court in April.
