‘Blow the place up’: Teenager behind fake bomb threat called into B.C. restaurant, RCMP say

A fake bomb threat that resulted in the evacuation of a restaurant in Prince George, B.C., last week came from a teenage prankster, according to the RCMP.

Authorities said someone called a restaurant on the Hart Highway on Thursday night and threatened to “blow the place up,” prompting staff to clear out the building.

Officers from the Prince George RCMP detachment attended the restaurant and determined there were no explosives anywhere on the premises.

“Through the ensuing investigation, police identified a 14-year-old Prince George resident as the caller,” said Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, in a written statement.

“Investigators attended the youth’s home and spoke with him and his guardians, where the youth admitted to making the prank call.”

The teenager is not known to police, and will be referred to the RCMP’s Restorative Justice Unit for “resolution,” Cooper added.

The RCMP warned that anyone caught making a false bomb threat can face criminal charges, including uttering threats.
