A registered nurse in Victoria has been handed a three-day suspension for taking a selfie at work, according to B.C.’s regulatory body for the profession.

In a summary of a consent agreement posted publicly earlier this week, the B.C. College of Nurses and Midwives says Brian Lee’s “practice issues” occurred sometime in early 2024.

Namely, Lee used his personal phone to take a photo of himself and “objects used in a medical procedure” in a patient care area, which breached patient confidentiality, according to the college.

“The registrant shared the digital photo with other healthcare staff who were not involved in the care of the patient,” the notice reads.

As a result, the college reprimanded Lee and suspended his nursing registration for three days.

“The inquiry committee is satisfied that the terms will protect the public,” the college wrote.
