BC Ferries employees get married on board

Adam meets a couple who fell in love while working together—in a story that can best be described as a “ferry tale" romance.

It was love at first sailing — a couple who met while working on a BC Ferries vessel tied the knot on board earlier this week.

Jordyn and Leslie Fox got married on the Northern Expedition, which sails the routes between Port Hardy, Prince Rupert and Skidegate, at 8 a.m. Wednesday in the ship’s Aurora Lounge surrounded by fellow crew members.

The captain and chief steward were the couple’s witnesses, the crew arranged a bouquet and cake, and an officiant was brought on board to perform the ceremony while the ferry was docked, BC Ferries recounted in a social media post.

“We met working on board, so why not get married there too,” Jordyn is quoted as saying in the post. “A big thank you to our BC Ferries family for joining us and thank you to the captains for letting us get married on board. I’m still so excited.”

Jordyn, a Haida woman from Skidegate, works as a customer service attendant, while Leslie, from Prince Rupert, is a third-class engineer.

“With the Northern Expedition sailing between these two coastal communities, it felt like the perfect place for them to share this special moment of connection and love,” BC Ferries wrote.

“Moments like this highlight how meaningful our vessels and their crews are to our people. Congratulations Jordyn and Leslie. Wishing you fair winds and following seas on your journey together.”
