4-vehicle crash was due to heavy fog: B.C. RCMP

Several people were taken to hospital after a four-vehicle crash near Field, B.C., near the Alberta border on Monday, according to police.

Officers responded to the collision around 1 p.m. on Highway 1 near the community, the local RCMP detachment said in a statement Wednesday.

A pickup truck struck a tractor trailer in the slow lane and rolled, then it was hit by another pickup truck and a third vehicle, according to police.

Visibility was poor due to a sudden increase in dense fog at the time.

“We would like to remind drivers to adjust their driving for conditions,” Sgt. Mitch Mercier said, in the statement. “A lot of times the weather in mountain terrain can change and drivers need to be aware of their surroundings and road conditions.”

Police say the drivers and a number of passengers were taken to hospital with serious injuries, but they are not believed to be life-threatening.
