One person was killed and another seriously injured in a crash in Surrey’s Newton area Thursday morning.
Police say they were called to a two-vehicle collision in the area of 144th Street and 56th Avenue around 7 a.m.
“Despite life-saving medical intervention by Surrey Fire Service and BCEHS, an occupant one of the vehicles was pronounced dead at scene,” reads a news release from the Surrey Police Service. “One seriously injured occupant was transported to hospital.”
Images from the scene at 144th Street and 56th Avenue show a commercial truck flipped over on its side and a heavily damaged smaller car with a yellow tarp over it. Both vehicles are on the sidewalk.
“The cause of the collision remains under investigation, but at this early stage the primary contributing factor is unknown,” police said.
Collision analysts have been called in and roads are closed in the area of Highway 10 between 148th Street and King George Boulevard for the investigation.
