TORONTO STADIUM BMO Field has undergone a $157.9 million renovation ahead of the FIFA World Cup. The venue will be temporarily renamed Toronto Stadium during the tournament, where it will host six matches.
TORONTO STADIUM Stadium capacity was expanded from approximately 28,000 to approximately 45,000 seats through temporary seating. Officials say the structure's siding will be covered closer to the tournament.
TORONTO STADIUM Despite some skepticism online, officials say the seats are "100 per cent" safe and will be ready to host a sold out crowd when Inter Miami and Lionel Messi play Toronto FC on May 9.

TORONTO STADIUM Officials say the seats will be removed after the competition.
TORONTO STADIUM New large-format LED videoboards were installed on the stadium’s corner columns. The videoboards are permanent, and will remain in place after the World Cup.
TORONTO STADIUM A new, fully resurfaced FIFA-standard pitch with a hybrid stitching system that reinforces the field was installed for the games. Officials say the upgraded playing surface creates improved stability, wear tolerance, and recovery for the players.
TORONTO STADIUM The name of the FIFA World Cup 2026 soccer ball is "Trionda," which it says can be translated from Spanish as “three waves.” "The ball’s vibrant design features a red, green and blue colour scheme that pays homage to the three host countries, while a brand-new four-panel construction with fluid geometry replicates the waves referenced in the ball’s name," FIFA says.

TORONTO STADIUM Team Canada's home "kit" is seen here, one of two looks the squad will wear during its matches. "The design elevates the maple leaf as the central symbol — split‑toned and centered, pointing north as a gesture of collective ambition and progress," Canada Soccer said in a news release.
TORONTO STADIUM Team Canada's away jersey (left) features a cracked-ice graphic, which Soccer Canada says captures both tension and beauty. "A frozen maple leaf etched like a skate blade reinforces Canada’s winter‑sports heritage. Designed as a future classic, the away kit channels intensity and forward drive through a darker, more disruptive expression."
TORONTO STADIUM One of Toronto Stadium's two dressing rooms sits empty, but will be filled with some of the best soccer players on the planet in less than 80 days.

TORONTO STADIUM Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow and representatives from the provincial and federal government were all in attendance for Tuesday's event.
TORONTO STADIUM FIFA presented Toronto with a plaque to mark the unveiling of the stadium on Tuesday. The stadium upgrades cost the $132. MLSE contributed $25 million. The province and the federal government also pitched in $97 million and $104 million, respectively, for Toronto's hosting duties.
TORONTO STADIUM As part of the stadium's upgrades, broadcast infrastructure was expanded to meet FIFA standards, including required camera positions, lighting levels and broadcast compound space for international television production.

TORONTO STADIUM As per FIFA rules, BMO Field will be known as Toronto Stadium throughout the tournament. All existing BMO branding will be covered during the six games Toronto is hosting.
TORONTO STADIUM Toronto FC and Toronto Argonauts fans will notice that much of the existing BMO Field infrastructure remains in place, including this view from the corner of the pitch.

TORONTO STADIUM During a tour, a MLSE official said that Toronto Stadium is FIFA World Cup 2026's smallest venue. That means fans in Toronto will be able to get closer to the action than any other host city in the tournament.
