Police charge ‘violent’ repeat offender after he allegedly restrained a man inside Mississauga home

Police charged a “violent” repeat offender after he allegedly bound a man inside of a home in Mississauga, and stole from him on two separate occasions.

Peel Regional Police (PRP) say the first incident happened on Dec. 4, when the accused allegedly restrained the man and demanded money.

The suspect allegedly took various bank cards from the victim and later forced him to withdraw a large amount of money. Officers did not disclose how much money was stolen.

Police say the accused released the victim, unharmed, after the withdrawal.

Nearly a month later, in the early morning hours on Jan. 1, Peel police say the suspect went back to the victim’s home. They add he allegedly returned armed with a handgun and confronted another victim while forcing his way into the residence.

Some items were stolen during the confrontation, police say, but they didn’t disclose what.

After police conducted a search warrant at a home in Mississauga on Jan. 3, they say they seized various items, including a firearm, prohibited magazines, ammunition hidden inside of a furnace, a pellet gun and identification belonging to the victim.

Darko Jugova, 35, who is currently on bail release, is facing numerous charges in connection with the incidents, including forcible confinement, robbery and extortion. Police add he was found with a gun on his person at the time of his arrest.

The charges have not been tested in court.

“Repeat violent offenders endanger our community and threaten lives. Our investigators will continue to work relentlessly to keep our community safe and are committed to ensuring that those responsible for these criminal acts are held accountable,” PRP Deputy Chief Marc Andrews said in the release issued Tuesday.
