2 Brampton men charged in ‘prolific’ $300K LCBO theft ring, police say

Two men face a combined 35 charges in an LCBO alcohol theft ring worth about $300K.

Peel Regional Police say they have charged two men from Brampton in connection with a series of organized retail thefts targeting LCBO locations across the region — with losses totalling an estimated $300,000.

“This particular theft ring targeted primarily LCBO locations in the Region of Peel,” Const. Mandeep Khatra told CP24, adding that locations in York Region, Toronto and southwestern Ontario were targeted.

“Most locations were targeted numerous times, particularly in the Brampton area.”

Khatra noted that the actual number of LCBO locations that were targeted is unknown “due to the high volume of thefts from this group.”

Police have laid a combined total of 35 charges against two individuals.

Anuj Kumar, 25, is alleged to be the primary suspect in an “extensive number of thefts” while Simarpreet Singh, 29, is also accused of participating in the “coordinated crimes,” police said

Investigators with the 21 Division Community Intervention Response Team say all charges are related to theft, possession of property obtained by crime, and drug offences.

“Both parties charged were already out on bail on similar charges to this investigation,” Khatra said.

“The investigation is continuing, and more charges are expected.”
