Police search for suspect after female sexually assaulted in Whitby

Police are searching for a male suspect who is wanted in connection with a recent sexual assault in Whitby.

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) said they were called to the area of Victoria Street East and Thickson Road south just after 4 a.m. on Jan. 12 for reports of a sexual assault.

They said that a male approached a female near Simcoe Street south and Hall Street, in Oshawa, at around 2:30 a.m. and offered her a ride.

The suspect then allegedly drove the victim to the area of Moore Court and William Smith Drive in Whitby, where he proceeded to sexually assault her.

He is described as Black male, 40 to 50 years old with a large build and a black beard. The suspect was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants.

His vehicle is described by police as a newer black pickup truck with automatic running boards and black leather seats. Police said the victim reported seeing construction helmets in the back seat.

Investigators are asking anyone with dashcam or video footage from the area of Simcoe Street South, between Olive Avenue and Highway 401, between the hours of 2:15 and 3:15 a.m. on Jan. 12 to contact DRPS or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
