Woman in her 70s dies after being struck by vehicle in Scarborough

Paramedics assessed the victim before transporting her to hospital with life-threatening injuries. She was later pronounced dead.

A woman in her 70s has died after she was struck by a vehicle in Scarborough on Thursday morning, Toronto police say.

Emergency crews were called to the area of Homestead Road and Coronation Drive just after 8:20 a.m. for reports of a pedestrian struck.

Police say the driver remained at the scene.

Paramedics assessed the victim before transporting her to hospital with life-threatening injuries where she was later pronounced dead.

Speaking to reporters, Duty Inspt. Earl Watson said investigators are speaking to “various individuals” to get a determination of what occurred.

“We are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area at the time and has dash cam footage, or to local businesses with video surveillance to please contact the police, he said.”

Watson also noted that while it’s too early to determine if speed was an indicator, investigators are looking into all possible factors that led up to the incident.

In an email statement to CTV News Toronto, a city spokesperson said “on behalf of the City of Toronto, we offer our deepest condolences to the family of the pedestrian struck and killed this morning.”

“The site of the collision was approximately 280 metres from a previously-stationed mobile Automated Speed Enforcement camera, which was removed following provincial legislation that came into effect in November 2025,” the statement read.

As a result of the investigation, Coronation Drive remains closed from Shoreview Drive to Homestead Road as officers continue to canvas the area.

Police are urging drivers to expect delays and find alternate routes.
