The CEO of a Toronto real estate services company has released a statement following Thursday’s violent home invasion that left him and other members of his family injured, saying it was a “terrifying and life-threatening experience.” David Morton, the CEO of the MAC Group, said in the statement on Friday that members of his family are currently in hospital recovering from the incident. “It is difficult to put into words the trauma of experiencing something so horrific in the one place where everyone should feel safest: their own home,” he said. Police have previously said that three masked suspects armed with handguns and a hammer broke into the home on Hyde Park Circle near Bayview and Lawrence avenues at around 3:45 a.m. Investigators said that the suspects confronted a husband and wife and their two adult daughters inside. Police have not identified the victims, who are a 75-year-old man, a 64-year-old woman, a 26-year-old woman, and a 28-year-old woman. However, CP24 learned that Morton and his wife, Doriana Zohil-Morton, were among those inside. On its website, The Mac Group describes itself as a “family of businesses serving individuals, families, corporations and global mobility partners,” including a real estate brokerage and a furnished apartment business. ‘No family should ever have to experience this’ In his statement Friday, Morton thanked first responders and hospital staff for their quick response and providing care as well as extended family, friends, and neighbours who reached out and showed support. “While we are focused on recovery and supporting one another as a family, we are also deeply concerned about the increasing violence associated with home invasions and the safety of families throughout Toronto,” Morton said. “No family should ever have to experience this. People should be able to sleep peacefully in their homes without fear of armed individuals breaking in and threatening their lives.” Morton encouraged anyone with information about the suspects, including the identities and whereabouts, to come forward so they can be brought to justice. He asked for privacy while the family recovers. “We are a family, and our priority is getting through this together,” Morton said. The home invasion took place on a quiet, tree-lined cul-de-sac in one of Toronto’s most affluent neighbourhoods. Police have described the incident as “frightening and disturbing” and have promised to dedicate significant resources to bringing those responsible to justice. “This attack has understandably shaken the neighbourhood and many residents across Toronto. This violence is not acceptable in our city,” Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow said in a statement on social media on Thursday. New details released Few details were released about what may have motivated the home invasion on Thursday, but by Friday afternoon a clearer picture had started to emerge. Sources have told CP24 that the masked suspects went to the second floor of the home, where they entered bedrooms belonging to the victims. In a news release on Friday, police said that the suspects made a demand for valuables before getting into an altercation with the occupants of the home. Police said that multiple firearms were discharged and three victims—the 75-year-old man, the 26-year-old woman, and the 28-year-old woman—all sustained gunshot wounds. The man was also struck with a hammer, as was the 64-year-old woman. All four victims were rushed to hospital. Two of them remained in hospital with what were being described as life-altering injuries as of Thursday afternoon. The three suspects, meanwhile, fled the scene in a dark-coloured SUV and remain at large. On Friday, police released descriptions of all three suspects as they made a public appeal for information in the case. All three are described as males who are approximately 20 years old and were last seen wearing dark-coloured clothing and a face mask. Police said that the suspects should be considered “armed and dangerous.” The Bridle Path incident marked the 119th home invasion reported to Toronto police so far this year. That is up 32.2 per cent from the same time in 2025. In a statement posted to social media Friday, Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw said that the impact of the home invasion on the family has been “devastating” but that the “impact on our communities is also very real.” “I want Torontonians to know that we are relentless in identifying and pursuing those responsible. Some of our most experienced investigators and specialized teams are following every lead to bring those involved to justice and prevent further harm,” he said. Demkiw said that residents in the neighbourhood can expect an increased police presence over the coming days. With files from Beatrice Vaisman
