The Toronto Blue Jays could not sweep the New York Yankees on Tuesday night, meaning the American League Division Series continues.

It was another scoreless inning for both teams, as Ernie Clement catches Yankee Giancarlo Stanton’s high ball at the bottom of the eighth.

7:31 p.m. Inside the home of a self-proclaimed Jays superfan

Jim Schonewille tells CTV News Kitchener he first decorated home after the Blue Jays last won the World Series. Schonewille’s home is decked in Jays memorabilia, from branded carpets and curtains to a scrolling LED sign in his front window.

7:08 p.m. One hour left until it’s time to play ball

As people started to pile into Yankee Stadium for Tuesday’s game, CP24’s Phil Perkins found some Jays fans making their way inside, including two brothers from Toronto sporting team jerseys and blue baseball caps.

“Well, I saw them win two games, I was a both, and I just had to be here. I bought the tickets last night and was on the plane this morning,” one said.

6:45 p.m. Arkells frontman Max Kerman pays homage to the Jays

In a TikTok video, Kerman sang his own rendition of the franchise’s iconic cheer.

“OK, let’s see how this would go,” Kerman said as he plucked away at his guitar strings, while sporting a green Toronto District School Board cap.

5:55 p.m. Blue Jays manager says players are ‘driving the bus’

When it comes to motivating his team with words, Schneider says he takes a back seat and lets the more experienced players talk to their teammates.

“I’ve told these guys the last couple days, this is the only year that I have yet to have a team meeting with the full group in my managerial life--minor leagues and big leagues. They are driving the bus,” Schneider explained.

“I think there’s certain times where veteran guys... if something needs to be said there’s George (Springer) for sure, Vladimir (Guerrero Jr.) for sure, some of our pitchers, whether it’s Chris (Bassitt) or Max (Scherzer) who love to talk, there’s plenty of guys that can kind of steer the ship.”

5:47 p.m. Schneider says it’s ‘pretty cool’ to play for an entire country

Schneider also spoke to the pressure of playing for an entire country instead of just a city or state as the lone Canadian team in the league.

“I haven’t been anywhere but here, so this is kind of my norm,” he explained. “It’s pretty cool. I definitely can say that now, more than ever, you feel the weight of the world and decisions you make. But when you’re kind of feeling a country, it kind of gets a little dicey at times.”

“Like the sixth inning with bases loaded and nobody out there and (Aaron) Judge hitting... you feel like people in Nova Scotia want to come murder you. So, I think that it gets magnified a little bit, but it’s kind of what I’ve what I’ve come to know.”

5:45 p.m. ‘Can’t take your foot off the gas’

Responding to a question about New York pundits who predicted the Yankees would easily advance against the Blue Jays, Schneider said he has no message for those people.

“I think we’re just focused on playing our game, really. And I think that we’re confident when we’re playing our game. It was a good weekend at home, and we’re still treating this as if it’s a 0-0 series, you know, you can’t take your foot off the gas.”

5:35 p.m. ‘He checks every box’: Manager John Schneider on Bieber

In his media availability before Wednesday night’s game, John Schneider expressed confidence in Bieber’s start on the mound in the Bronx, saying he’s a pitcher who “checks every box” and makes you “feel good about a guy like that on a big stage.”

4:25 p.m. ‘You’re not just playing for a city, you’re playing for a whole country’: Davis Schneider

Speaking ahead of the game, left fielder Davis Schneider shared what it means to be a player for the Jays--the sole Canadian team in the MLB.

“You’re not just playing for a city, you’re playing for a whole country. There’s so many fans out there that support the Blue Jays, and not even just in Canada,” Schneider said. “I’ll be in Florida or back home in New Jersey and there’s a random Blue Jays fan.”

4 p.m. Blue Jays performance in Toronto ‘remarkable:’ ESPN reporter

ESPN reporter Tim Kurkjian tells CP24 that what the Blue Jays were able to do in the first two games of the series in Toronto is nothing short of “remarkable.”

“In two games they have eight homers and seven strikeouts. That is impossible in this strikeout era for that to happen but that is how good the Blue Jays have been at making contact and hitting it out of the ballpark here and there,” he said as they team took batting practice at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday afternoon. “Plus there pitching has been absolutely sensational. If Shane Bieber is as good as Kevin Gausman and Trey Yesavage (tonight) this series is going to end.”

3:45 p.m. - Shane Bieber tapped as starting pitcher for Game 3

The Jays shared their starting lineup for Game 3 in a post on X.

3:30 p.m. - Blue Jays take field for batting practice

The Blue Jays have taken the field at Yankee Stadium for batting practice. CP24’s Phil Perkins is on the ground in New York and says the team has brought a Bluetooth speaker onto the field which is blasting Taylor Swift’s ‘Welcome to New York.’ Perkins describes the mood in Yankee Stadium as “loose.”

“They are feeling comfortable here I will tell you that,” he says.

3:25 p.m. - Superstitions abound for Jays fans

Casey Scott, from Saskatoon, Sask., will be wearing a royal blue Toronto Blue Jays hat and his longtime Jays hoodie for tonight’s game, in hopes it will bring the team good luck.

“I pick a hat depending on what the Jays have been doing,” he told CTV News Toronto. “Let’s say if they lost the day before, I will change hats. But if they won the day before, whatever hat I was wearing, I’ll stick to it.”

Scott isn’t the only one doing something to bring the Jays luck.

Diane Marsh, from Calgary, Alta., wore her “baggy, tacky” Blue Jays nightie to bed last night.

“That’s the night-before-a-game attire, because I would jinx everything if I didn’t (wear it),” she said.

3 p.m. – Bautista says pressure is on Yankees

Former Blue Jays all-star Jose Bautista tells CP24 that while Yankee Stadium can certainly be an “intimidating place” to play in, he is optimistic about the Jays chances of closing out the series on the road.

“They (the Yankees) are the most winning franchise in all of professional sports for a reason and it is not going to be easy today but they (the Blue Jays) have shown that they (are executing at a high level right now and the pressure is on the Yankees to be quite honest,” he said. “I am very optimistic and I do believe that we are going to continue getting the big hits.”

2:30 p.m. - Fans pick up Blue Jays merchandise ahead of big game

CP24 spoke with a number of Blue Jays fans picking up some merchandise at Rogers Centre ahead of tonight’s big game. One fan said that he has tickets to a potential Game 5 in Toronto on Friday night but is hoping he won’t have to use them.

“I have been around for a long time so I am optimistic but not crazy optimistic. I am a realist, I know they are playing the Yankees and they are a tough team so we have to watch and see,” he said. “I have a ticket for Game 5 but I am kind of hoping I don’t have to go to Game 5. If I do, I will be in a stadium with 44,000 super nervous people.”

2 p.m. - Yankees fans making voices heard

CTV News Toronto’s Sean Leathong is reporting from outside Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. Leathong says that within 10 minutes of arriving earlier this morning he heard his first “Let’s go Yankees” from a driver passing by and got a similar greeting from a school bus driver moments later.

“By 8 a.m. we had at least five people heckle us while standing in front of the camera,” he said.

12:40 p.m. - ‘We are coming down for the World Series, Mr. President’

Prime Minister Mark Carney appeared to engage in some friendly baseball trash talk as he met with U.S. President Donald Trump in the Oval Office on Tuesday morning.

Carney and Trump were discussing the trade relationship between Canada and the U.S. when a reduction in cross-border travel came up.

“We are coming down for the World Series Mr. President,” Carney said, seemingly referencing the Blue Jays current playoff run.

“Oh good,” Trump replied.

Trump is from New York City and is a longtime Yankees fan.

11 a.m. - History may favour the Jays

Ellen Hyslop of ‘The Gist’ podcast tells CP24 that she is “reluctantly” waiting for Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton to have some sort of breakout moment in Game 3 of the ALDS following a slow start in Toronto, a development that she says could be a “gamechanger” for the Yankees. Hyslop, however, says that the Jays have put themselves in an envious position with a 2-0 advantage in the ALDS.

“I don’t know if the Blue Jays can win three games in a row against the Yankees but I also don’t think the Yankees can win three games in a row against the Blue Jays,” she said. “When it comes to the ALDS, 89 per cent of teams who go up 2-0 in the series tend to go on to win. So I do think the Blue Jays have set themselves up so well heading into the Bronx.”

Hyslop said that one of the keys for the Blue Jays tonight will be “how quickly they can get to the Yankees relievers.”

“There wasn’t much of that actually in Game 2 because the Yankees were able to keep one of their pitchers in for a very long time and just work him because they were down so much. So the Yankees relievers are coming in actually quite rested in comparison to the Toronto Blue Jays, so it will be up to the batters to try to get to those relievers sooner rather than later,” she told CP24.

10:30 a.m. – Watch parties planned

Mississauga will be hosting a watch party at Celebration Square for Game 3. The city has temporarily renamed the public square ‘The Birds’ Nest’ ahead of the big game. Mayor Carolyn Parrish said in a post on social media that she is hoping for a strong turnout of Jays fans to help cheer ‘the Jays wipe out of the Yankees.’

10 a.m. - Blue Jays fans descend on NYC

Toronto’s Matt Silver travelled to New York City to cheer the Blue Jays in Game 3. He told CTV News Channel on Tuesday morning that he bought his ticket before he even knew for sure that the Blue Jays would be matched up with the Yankees in the American League Division Series.

“I don’t think I am going to be sitting down all day,” he said. “I am super, super excited. I have followed this team since I was a little kid, I grew up going to the dome so the fact that I get to see the Jays possibly sweep the Yankees at Yankees Stadium, there is nothing like this.”

Silver said that he believes the Jays are built for post-season success. His prediction for tonight, he says, is a 6-3 Blue Jays win that would send the club back to the American League Championship Series for the first time since 2016.

“I think if there are some early fireworks it is going to quiet down that Yankee crowd and you are just going to hear me and all the other Jays fans just roaring,” he told CTV News Channel.
