VICTORIA - Researchers following endangered orcas are glowing after their latest discovery Wednesday.  They spotted a new orca born to the 'L' pod, which is a family of endangered southern resident killer whales.

This baby is the third orca born to an endangered pod in recent months.

NOAA Fisheries West Coast posted the discovery on its Facebook page Thursday, including a satellite image from tracking one of the whales L84 (see attached).

Dr. Bran Hanson stated "the whales were very grouped up and within a few minutes we observed the new calf - with its unique orange-ish color on the white areas. The calf looked very energetic."
