A Duncan couple has a lot to be thankful for after a Parksville business saved their wedding.

Corelli Mattice-Mills and Jai Mills were setting up for their big day at Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park on Saturday.

The plan was to celebrate on the beach with more than 100 of their family and friends - rain or shine.

But the couple says they didn’t expect that much rain.

“We weren’t prepared for a typhoon,” Corelli said.

To make things worse, there was no back-up plan.

The bride’s friend went to Serious Coffee to warm up and began chatting with one of the owners.

They offered the coffee shop as a venue.

“At first I was like are you kind of joking a little bit,” Corelli said.

It turned out it wasn’t a joke. The owner’s closed early and refused payment for hosting the party.

“Out of the goodness of their hearts they took us in and took care of all my guests and made it so warm and so welcoming,” Corelli said. “They stayed there and helped us out and partied with us.”

The happy bride says she can’t express enough gratitude for the generosity.

“They saved my wedding day,” Corelli said. “It would’ve been beautiful, the ceremony, but at the same time they all would’ve left, it would have been cold and miserable.”

The newlywed says now they need to work on getting the business owners to accept their cheque.

“We’re not quitters, we’ll keep trying,” Corelli said.
