A driver was sober when he jumped a curb, landing his vehicle on top of a pile of sandy logs at Willows Beach, according to police.

The man was reportedly driving on the north end of Esplanade along the beach Sunday when he accidently hit the gas pedal out of a turn, jumping the sidewalk onto the beach.

His vehicle, a minivan, cleared several metres from the raised sidewalk and came to a stop on a pile of logs.

The man was issued a $196 ticket for driving without consideration under the Motor Vehicle Act, according to police.

A tow truck was able to transport the minivan from the beach back onto the road.

Oak Bay Police tweeted a photo of the incident on Monday, saying the driver was fortunate that it was low tide when it happened.

No one was injured in what police are calling an "awkward moment."
