Police are recommending a charge of manslaughter against a 17-year-old suspect after the death of a young man in Campbell River over the weekend.

Details are unclear, but Mounties say a 911 call led them to the 500-block of Hilchey Road just before midnight Saturday.

They found the injured 18 year old at the scene and he was taken to hospital.

Paramedics tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate the young man and he was later pronounced dead.

The 17 year old was arrested and remained in police custody as of Monday.

Investigators believe both the suspect and victim knew each other and say it was not a random act of violence.

Anyone with information is asked to call Campbell River RCMP at 250-286-6221 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
