By next month the new Johnson Street Bridge will be looking a little more like, well, an actual bridge.

The City of Victoria says the span for the new bridge will be lifted into place the week of Jan. 26.

The city previously posted pictures of the span, with its underside light up by blue lights.

It's the one of the final major pieces of the long-delayed and over-budget project.

The bridge is scheduled to be open to traffic sometimes this spring, nearly three years behind schedule, while its budget has ballooned from $63-million to $105-million.

Crews began lifting steel rings and counterweights into place in December, prompting traffic closures on the existing bridge.

More traffic delays are likely when the bridge span is lifted into place later this month.
