The search is on for a masked man who forced his way into a Sooke trailer with a weapon and made off with cash overnight Monday, Mounties say.

The home invasion took place in a trailer in the 2200-block of Church Road just after 3 a.m. Monday morning.

Police say once the man barged his way in, he confronted one of the people living inside and they handed him items including an undisclosed amount of cash taken from a secure location.

The two people living in the trailer weren't injured during the robbery, and the thief took off on foot.

A description of the masked man is limited due to his disguise and the time of night, but as he left the trailer he seemed to call out to a possible accomplice, according to investigators.

Mounties are investigating whether the home invasion is linked to the discovery of a bag found in a green space in the 6600-block of Acreman Place, just down the street from the trailer.

Police received a report from a person who found the bag but was unsure what was in it.

It was found to contain a "substantial quantity" of controlled drugs packaged for sale including more than 50 grams of methamphetamine and hundreds of prescription pills including oxycontin.

They're also trying to determine whether a reported disturbance between a man and a woman around the time of the home invasion is connected.

Witnesses reported hearing yelling between the two followed by the man leaving in a vehicle. The woman was not located.

"This is being investigated to ensure no one was hurt, and to determine if there is a link to the home invasion which occurred just a short distance away," RCMP said in a release.

Anyone with information on any of the incidents is asked to call Sooke RCMP at 250-642-5241 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
