Sooke parks closing for filming of 'popular TV series'
The District of Sooke is notifying community members that it will be closing down two scenic parks to accommodate the filming of a "popular TV series."
On Saturday, April 29, Whiffin Spit will be closed from 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Ed MacGregor Park will be closed from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The closure at Ed MacGregor Park also includes the closure of the Sooke Marine Boardwalk and the Rotary Pier, according to the district.
Nearby parking lots will also be closed during these times to accommodate filming.
The closed parking lots are:
- Rotary Pier lot on Horne Road | 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Ed Macgregor Park lot at 6571 West Coast Rd. | 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Whiffin Spit lot at 1510 Whiffin Spit Rd. | 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The district adds that production will also be filming in various regions of Sooke on Friday, though no parks or parking lots will be closed on this date.
Crews will be using drones and handheld cameras on Friday, and the public may run into them, the district warns.
"The district has been working closely with the production company to balance the community impact and accommodate production needs, and thanks residents for their understanding as we welcome this opportunity for Sooke," said the municipality in a release Friday.
Earlier this week, the Vancouver Island South film commission said it was expecting a relatively busy year.
The South Island region has already hosted a dozen TV and film productions while only being four months into the year, said Vancouver Island South film commissioner Kathleen Gilbert.
