The University of Saskatchewan (U of S) Huskies men’s hockey team has clinched everything.

First in their division. First in the Canada West Conference. And they’ll have home ice advantage at Merlis Belsher throughout the entire Canada-West playoffs.

The dogs swept the Manitoba Bisons last weekend to cement top spot in their conference, netting a 2-1 win on Friday night and a 4-2 win on Saturday.

The Huskies have been dominant, especially in the second half of the season, which included a two-game sweep of rival Alberta.

Saskatchewan has seen stellar goaltending this season, with Roddy Ross posting an incredible conference leading 1.99 Goals Against Average this season, along with a shutout.

Ross was a 2019 NHL draft pick, selected in the 6th round by the Philadelphia Flyers, and one of a few former NHL draft picks on the Huskies this season.

Jordan Kooy has also been a wall in net for the Huskies this season, notching a 2.13 Goals Against Average, good enough for third in the Canada-West Conference.

Chantz Petruic has led the way on the score sheet with 20 goals and 17 assists this season and ranked third in the conference in total points. He also has 12 power play goals on the year.

Saskatchewan has a number or former Saskatoon Blades chipping in as well including Rhett Rhinehart, Trevor Wong and Josh Pillar who was drafted in the fourth round by Minnesota in the 2021 NHL draft.

By finishing first in the conference, the Huskies will have a bye week in the opening round of the playoffs and will host the semi-final best-of-three series next weekend against either the MacEwan Griffins or UBC Thunderbirds.

That series will take place starting February 28th, at Merlis Belsher Place.
