Top Dog: Huskies’ Hundeby named U SPORTS Defensive Player of the Year

University of Saskatchewan Huskies star Seth Hundeby has been recognized as the top defensive player in Canadian college football, receiving the honour at the U SPORTS All-Canadian Gala Thursday evening.

He’s just the third Huskie to win the prestigious President’s Trophy, following in the footsteps of Warren Muzika (1998) and Nelson Lokombo (2019.)

The fifth-year linebacker was one of four Huskies named U SPORTS All-Canadians, alongside Daniel Wiebe and Charlie Parks on the first team, with Reece McCormick taking home second-team honours.

This is the second consecutive season the engineering major has been recognized as an All-Canadian.

Wiebe was named the 2025 Canada West Player of the Year after leading the conference in receptions, yards and touchdowns. Parks was named Canada West Outstanding Lineman of the Year after leading the conference in sacks and tackles for loss.

In just seven games, Hundeby finished first in Canada West in tackles for loss, recorded three sacks and was the lone player in the conference with five total turnovers.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders draft pick has 16 total tackles and 2.5 sacks these playoffs as he’s helped lead the Huskies to this weekend’s Vanier Cup against the Montreal Carabins.

The 60th Vanier Cup will be played Nov. 22 at Regina’s Mosaic Stadium. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m.
