Man arrested after failed carjacking on USask campus

Saskatoon police say a man is in custody after he tried to steal a car Monday afternoon with a woman inside the vehicle before assaulting university security on Tuesday.

According to a Saskatoon police news release, University of Saskatchewan (USask) campus security alerted officers of the attempted theft around 1 p.m.

Saskatoon police say the suspect attempted to physically remove a woman from her car on the 100 block of Wiggins Road and fled the scene before police arrived after he was unsuccessful.

The woman was not hurt, police said.

U of S campus security arrested the suspect, a 36-year-old man around 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

The suspect assaulted a security guard during the arrest, the release said.

Saskatoon police said charges against the man are pending.
