2 people hospitalized after chlorine gas incident in Saskatoon

Two people were sent to hospital after an incident involving chlorine gas at Spadina Crescent and 21st Street East Friday afternoon.

At around 12:13 p.m., fire crews responded to a report of a hazmat incident involving the accidental mixing of chlorine and muriatic acid, Saskatoon Fire Department (SFD) said in a release.

Hazmat crews arrived on scene to find the contaminated areas had been evacuated, according to the fire department. Two individuals were transported to hospital by ambulance, but their condition is currently unknown.

SFD says the release of chlorine gas was contained and the hazmat crew began to ventilate the area.

In an update shortly after 3 p.m., the fire department declared the scene all clear and confirmed that the air quality was safe.
