WATCH: Prince Albert's George Glenn showcases five decades of art in "Looking Through Time" exhibition.

After five decades of creating art in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan artist George Glenn is showcasing his life’s work in a new exhibition “Looking Through Time.”

Glenn’s show at the John V. Hicks Gallery has been in the works since the 1970s – he just didn’t know it until recently.

“I hadn’t imagined that my work would be shown, that all of my work could be shown here,” said Glenn. “But I was very pleased about it.”

When Glenn first moved to Prince Albert in 1975, it was for a year-long residency supported by the Saskatchewan Arts Board, now known as SK Arts.

“I hadn’t planned to spend 50 years here,” said Glenn. “I hadn’t planned for 50 years period. But it just worked out that it was a great place to live.”

Exhibition Curator Jesse Campbell has been working with the artist for over 10 years.

“We realized that we were coming up on the 50th anniversary of George’s artist residency in Prince Albert,” she said. “The ball started turning and we started thinking about what might be done to acknowledge that 50th anniversary.”

“The walls were closing in around me,” he said. “I knew I had to review all of my work.”

His paintings, drawings, and installation pieces are changed out every Monday according to weekly themes.

He says he draws inspiration from everyday life. “Fifty years sounds a really long time,” said Glenn. “But it’s gone by so fast. Sort of a warning to all: do what you want now.”

The show opened on March 1 and will remain open until April 23.
