A number of drivers in Saskatoon say they noticed something very unusual with their vehicles after they filled up at a local gas station.
CTV News has heard from several people who say they experienced vehicle problems after they filled up with gas at the Flying J on Idylwyld Drive Thursday night.
A couple drivers who say they took their vehicles to a mechanic say signs are pointing to a possible gas mix-up, where they may have accidentally received diesel from a pump labelled for gasoline.
Joshua Campbell says he felt something was wrong with his vehicle not long after he filled up.
“I kind of had a light suspicion, just because what are the coincidences of your vehicle just suddenly stopping after I have never had a single problem with it? Just stops after you get new fuel.”
After he towed the vehicle to a mechanic, he learned he wasn’t alone.
“The mechanic I took it to, he ended up sending me a Facebook post of someone else who was having a problem with it, and they fueled up earlier than I did. And that’s when I kind of discovered ‘Ok, this is clearly a much larger situation than just me here,’” Campbell said.
Another driver told CTV News they experienced the same thing.
Christian Tellez says he filled up his truck at pump number six at the Flying J around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Three blocks later, he says the truck stopped working. He told CTV News his mechanic told him there was diesel in his truck.
“Pump number six is only for gas, so there’s no way it’s my mistake,” said Tellez, who later returned to the pump with a jerry can to confirm.
“And ya, that was diesel,” he said.

In an email to CTV News, the company acknowledged the issue and said it was working to restore services.
“Our team is actively working to restore fueling services after a cross-drop of fuel occurred at the Flying J location on Idylwyld Dr. in Saskatoon. We have temporarily closed the affected pumps until the issue has been resolved,” the company said.
“If you purchased unleaded fuel at this location on February 6, 2025, after 2:30 p.m. CT, and are having potential issues, please contact us at (877) 866-7378 so we can work to resolve your concerns.”
Each driver told CTV the company was being kind, diligent and respectful in handling their concerns.
