Saanich police taped off a section of a Royal Oak street as they investigated a suspicious package Friday afternoon.

Police shut down the 4500-block of Chatterton Way in both directions around 4 p.m., asking drivers to detour using Royal Oak Drive.

Saanich police said Saturday morning that the road remained closed until about 2 a.m., by which time the package had been removed.

With the help of the Greater Victoria Emergency Response team, police determined that the package was not an explosive device.
