The riding that saw the closest three-way race in B.C. political history in 2013 is set for a rematch.

Only 379 votes separated the top three candidates in Saanich North and the Islands in 2013.

Four years later and Liberal Stephen Roberts, New Democrat Gary Holman and Green Adam Olsen are back to duke it out for a seat in the Legislature once more.

Holman edged out Roberts by just 163 votes in the last provincial election, while Olsen trailed him by 379.

The race was so close, it took officials two weeks after the election to figure out who won.

It was also the first time the riding went orange by voting in the NDP. The Liberals had previously held the seat since it was created in 1991.

The 2013 race marked the closest the Greens came to securing a second seat in the Legislature, aside from leader Andrew Weaver’s.

Independent candidate Jordan Templeman is also running in the riding this year.

Saanich North and the Islands comprises Central Saanich, North Saanich, Sidney, as well as Galiano, Saltspring, Mayne, Saturna and North and South Pender islands.
