A pregnant woman had to be rescued from Mount Finlayson after she injured her ankle near the summit of the popular hiking spot.

Langford Fire said the hiker called 911 to report her injury at 10:18 a.m. Monday.

It's unclear how she hurt her ankle but officials say she wasn't able to bear weight, and it may have been broken.

Due to cold and icy conditions, crews deployed ATV's to get her to an ambulance waiting on Finlayson Arm Road.

The woman appeared to be hiking alone and was able to call 911 herself after suffering the injury.

"She had a working cell phone with a good battery charge. We were able to contact her directly," said Langford Fire Chief Chris Aubrey. "It's really helpful for us to be able to get help to her as soon as we possibly can."

Langford and Metchosin fire were called in to assist the hiker, while View Royal fire crews were waiting on standby.

Aubrey said the cold and slippery conditions provided an added challenge for first responders.
