Saskatchewan’s best curlers faced off against one another at the Moose Jaw Curling Centre over the weekend. Both men’s and women' Masters finals were held, to determine which teams would get to wear the green jackets at the Canadian Masters final at the end of the month.

“The ice has been great, the athletes are having a bunch of fun. It’s a great curling facility, you can have the men’s and the women’s on at the same time, and the atmosphere has been great here,” Jamie Regier with Curl Saskatchewan told CTV News.

At the end of the weekend, Team Anderson took the title in the women’s division, and Team Humble reclaimed the title for the second year in a row in the men’s.

“When we play the bagpipe music walking them down the ice ... I always get chills, listening [to] that song and watching them come down the ice. So it’s pretty cool at the end of the day to see them put on the green jackets,” Regier said.

The weekend provided an opportunity for the curling community to gather and share their love of the sport.

As Regier explained, it’s been promising to see a growing interest in the sport within Saskatchewan.

We got a lot of fans that love curling and it’s a huge it’s big for us ... going through Covid, a lot of rinks shut down and a lot of clubs are joining Curl Sask again and numbers are rising. So it’s good to see that," he added.

The winning teams will soon be heading to Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. in the hopes of trading their green jackets in for red ones.
