A 27-year-old and 24-year-old man are facing charges after Regina police say a vehicle sped away from officers at a high rate of speed during a traffic stop on Sunday night.

According to a Regina police news release, officers attempted a traffic stop around 9:35 p.m. on a vehicle believed to be involved in a previous incident near Rae Street and 4th Avenue, when the vehicle drove away at a high rate of speed while police had their emergency lights activated.

Regina police’s plane followed the vehicle that continued to travel at a high rate of speed through the city before leaving city limits on Pasqua Street.

A tire deflation device was then used on a grid road north of the city, but the vehicle continued northbound until officers from the Service Tactical Support Unit successfully stopped it, the release said.

Police said the driver was arrested without any further incident, but the passenger refused to exit the vehicle and was safely apprehended with the assistance of a Police Service Dog.

As a result, a 27-year-old man was charged with flight from a peace officer, operate conveyance dangerous to the public and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order. The 24-year-old man was charged with resisting arrest.

The 27-year-old made his first court appearance on Monday. The 24-year-old will make his first appearance on May 8, Regina police said.
