Snowfall warnings issued for southern Saskatchewan

Canada’s federal weather service has issued snowfall warnings for most of southern Saskatchewan Tuesday.

The warnings were issued just after 3 p.m. and covers a large swath of the province from Kindersley to Estevan.

Other centres affected include Swift Current, Moose Jaw, Regina, Weyburn and Assiniboia.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is forecasting 10 to 20 centimetres of snowfall - which is expected to begin Wednesday morning in the western regions of the province.

Conditions are expected to reach the eastern regions by Wednesday afternoon.

Snowfall is expected to be heavy at times – with 10 centimetres expected to be widespread. Pockets of up to 20 centimetres are possible for Kindersley to Moose Jaw to Estevan.

The snowfall is expected to ease by daybreak by Thursday.

Central Saskatchewan is also subject to an extreme cold warning, affecting communities such as Saskatoon, Prince Albert, Yorkton and the Battlefords. Temperatures of – 40C to -45C are expected Tuesday evening and overnight.

Wind chills are set to moderate on Wednesday.
