A Regina massage therapist accused of sexually assaulting a youth is facing numerous charges stemming from an alleged incident that occurred in February.

According to a Regina police news release, 33-year-old Douglas Ramos Fundao was arrested on Feb. 24 after it was reported that a minor was inappropriately touched during a massage therapy session in east Regina in February.

As a result, Ramos Fundao was charged with sexual interference, invitation of sexual touching and sexual assault on a person under 16 years of age, Regina police said.

Fundao made his first court appearance the following day on Feb. 25.

In an email to CTV News, the Canadian Massage & Manual Osteopathic Therapists Association (CMMOTA) says it has suspended Ramos Fundao’s membership, adding that the outcome of the criminal court process could result in its cancellation.

“As a result, he is currently not permitted to practice,” the email says.

CMMOTA says it takes allegations of this nature very seriously and are committed to upholding the highest standards of professional conduct and public safety.

“We did not receive any prior reports of inappropriate behaviour regarding Mr. Ramos Fundao prior to charges being laid,” CMMOTA said.
