Regina man faces long list of charges after string of thefts, wild driving

A Regina man is facing multiple charges related to theft, drug trafficking and driving dangerously following a string of incidents late last week.

Police were called to the 3100 block of East Truesdale Driver for a report of a hit and run at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 21 where a van drove over a front lawn crashing into a fence and then fleeing on foot.

Coincidentally, as officers were responding to that call, a second call came from Spicer Place, one block away. The caller told police that their vehicle, which was left running, was stolen while they were making a delivery.

The suspect drove the stolen vehicle to White City, where police say he robbed a business and attempted to steal someone’s car while they were inside it. However, that attempt was unsuccessful, and the suspect made his way back to the city.

At approximately 8:50 p.m. police received reports of a dangerous driver near McDonald Street and Park Street. The Aerial Support Unit was able to spot the driver and track him.

A short time later, the driver collided with another car in the Douglas Avenue and Douglas Crescent area. The driver of that vehicle sustained what appeared to be minor injuries and was treated on scene.

The suspect was taken into custody with assistance from the service’s tactical support unit. A search of the original stolen van found cocaine, methamphetamine, and evidence of drug trafficking.

The accused, a 40-year-old man from Regina, is charged with two counts of possession of a scheduled substance for the purpose of trafficking, dangerous operation of a conveyance, impaired driving, theft of a motor vehicle, and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

He appeared in Regina Provincial Court Monday morning.
