A 35-year-old Regina man is facing charges that include kidnapping and assault with a weapon after police say a woman was taken from a business at knifepoint early Friday morning.

Police were called to the business on the 2800 block of East Quance Street around 12:30 a.m. after a report of a man threatening individuals with a knife, a Regina police news release said.

“The individual who came into the business with a female then held a knife to her back and got into a cab, fleeing the scene,” the release said.

A call then came into police from what was believed to be the woman inside the cab. Police said the suspect could be heard threatening both the woman and the driver before exiting the vehicle.

Officers located the suspect with a firearm running eastbound on the 400 block of Toronto Street. Police said he was taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit, adding that the firearm was found nearby.

The suspect is facing 14 charges in total, including two counts each of kidnapping, assault with a weapon and possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order.

He is scheduled to make his first court appearance Friday afternoon, Regina police said.
