Regina business owner praises security system following second break-in in 17 months

WATCH: A Regina business owner is praising her security system following a second break-in in 17 months.

A Regina business is cautioning others to tighten their security measures after experiencing a near break and enter.

Jasmine Paterson is the owner of Belleza Moda Beauty & Fashion, located in an eastern part of Regina.

Early Tuesday morning, Paterson received a phone notification that the back of her shop had been broken into.

She tuned into a live video feed of the shop. The intruders don’t make an appearance but can be heard talking. They then leave before taking anything.

“It’s more of an emotional expense than a physical of financial expense. Is this going to happen again, is this going to be a reoccurring problem,” Paterson said.

This was the second time the business had been broken into in 17 months.

In September 2023, roughly $60,000 of goods and property were stolen and broken.

The perpetrator was caught a few days later.

“As a result, we had a huge insurance claim that we had to make. A police claim we had to make [as well]. It took about nine months to resolve everything,” Paterson said.

Since then, three cameras have been added to the property and a panic door is set to be installed on the back door of the shop.

“Having the cameras, having the alarm system. It’s all been beneficial. The best thing is protecting what you’ve got and staying positive,” said Paterson.

According to the Regina Police Service’s community crime statistics, there have been 14 break and enters at businesses so far in 2025.

Correction

A previous version of this article incorrectly stated there have been 174 break and enters at Regina businesses so far in 2025. There have in fact been 14 as of March 11, 2025.
