The Saskatchewan government says it’s committing $6.5 million to build a Ronald McDonald House in Regina.
The building would offer families a comfortable place to stay in the city while their children receive medical care or stay in hospital.
The design for the Regina home includes 20 bedrooms, a children’s playroom, outdoor play space and communal kitchen.
Construction of the home on the corner of Scarth Street and 15th Avenue will begin in March with a completion date set for early 2027.
The province says it’s a centrally located area that is also close to the Regina General Hospital.
Ronald McDonald House Charities Saskatchewan (RMHC) was founded in 1985 and currently includes a Ronald McDonald House in Saskatoon and a Family Room in Prince Albert.
According to the province, around 29,800 Saskatchewan families have been served by the programs.
“I am thrilled that Saskatchewan families will now have the option of staying at a Ronald McDonald Home when they come to Regina seeking medical care for their children,” Health Minister Jeremy Cockrill said in a news release.
“At a very stressful time in their lives, families will know they can rely on an affordable place where they feel welcome and cared for, while their child is undergoing medical treatment.”
Saskatoon’s Ronald McDonald House is located near the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital and Royal University Hospital.
