WATCH: The trial of Okimaw Night-Fox was cut short, as the accused agreed to plead guilty to a lesser charge. Hallee Mandryk reports.

Okimaw Russell Night-Fox has pleaded guilty to second degree murder, for his role in the death of Jason Lee Bird in 2021.

Night-Fox opted to represent himself at trial.

The Regina man, who was initially charged with first degree murder, decided to enter his plea to the lesser charge of second degree murder on the first day of what would have been a month long trial.

The judge accepted this plea, and will hand down a sentence on Feb. 7, after hearing a joint submission from the accused and the Crown.

Jason Lee Bird, 33, died in hospital on the morning of July 15th, 2021 after police responded to a call of an injured man on the 800 block of Princess Street.

Terrance Desnomie was the first person to be charged in relation to Bird’s death, with Night-Fox seeing charges shortly after.
